Sullaiman Turay, a teacher and Cohort 1 participant in Leaders Hub Foundation’s free IT training programme.
As a teacher, Sullaiman Turay helps others learn. But before joining Cohort 1 of our free IT training, he had something to learn himself: how to operate a computer.
Through a month of lessons and hands-on practice, Sullaiman began developing that skill.
“I can now operate a computer,” he said proudly.
Those words mark a change from where he started. He came into the training unable to operate a computer and left with knowledge he wants to keep building on.
Continuing to practise is important to him. The computer he once had is broken, and he hopes to get another so he can put what he has learned into practice.
His experience shows why access to a computer matters even after training ends. Lessons give learners a foundation, while opportunities to practise help them grow more confident and develop their skills further.
For Sullaiman, learning also connects to his work as a teacher. When he thinks about what comes next, he thinks about the young people in his classroom.
“I hope to share what I have learned with my students,” he said.
That hope gives his progress a wider purpose. The opportunity he received could become a starting point for his students too, as he passes on what he knows.
His story reflects what raising transformational leaders means to us: people taking an opportunity to grow, then using what they have learned to help others move forward.
Sullaiman hopes to keep learning and bring his students along with him.
